This course is designed to provide Higher Education Staff with the skills and knowledge required to create and sustain an academic environment that enables effective team development, leadership, and high performance.

Course Objectives

• Develop skills in the areas of communication, teamwork, influencing, strategic thinking, planning, and organizing in academia
• Analyze data, identify key issues and opportunities, and develop strategies that align with institutional goals
• Manage teams effectively, delegate tasks, provide feedback, and motivate team members
• Ability to manage and identify the source of conflict, listen actively to all parties involved, and find a resolution that satisfies everyone
• Ability to think creatively and innovatively and develop new approaches to teaching and learning
• Ability to empathize with others, manage stress and anxiety, and develop positive relationships

• Gain the knowledge and practical team development skills required to work as an effective leader and member of a team in a Higher Education setting
• Foster competencies in communication, leadership styles, team development, motivation, and managing conflict
• Skilfully lead other people in work-related tasks and activities

Course Structure

Day 1: Welcome & Introduction to Team Development & Leadership

• Welcome & Induction
• The stages of team development, to include different kinds of teams in a Higher Education setting, a multi-team environment, the characteristics of an effective team, and the need for different roles for Individuals
• Learn how team leaders can shape the culture of an organisational and lead virtual, hybrid, and distributed teams effectively

Day 2: Getting the Best from Your People

• Understand the importance of robust communication skills for team development
• Learn about the barriers to communication and gain the skills necessary to deal with challenging conversations within your team
• Understand the importance of planning for effective performance, setting realistic goals to enhance performance, and establishing a mechanism for quantitative and qualitative feedback
• Develop a strategy for training and developing your people capability

Day 3: Team Leadership & Change Management

• The academic environment is constantly changing and evolving, and at times presents challenges
• It is important to understand the importance of team leadership and management and commitment of staff performance to achieve positive outcomes
• Looking at the major models of change management to lead your team successfully

Day 4: Conflict Management Workshop

• This workshop will provide participants with a holistic and practical toolkit to effectively manage conflict in the workplace
• Identifying diverging stakes and/or perspectives to reach a compromise by setting new goals that facilitate the transition from the comfort zone to the growth zone

  • The availability of other financial sources in your country or region
